Position Summary
The Advanced Manufacturing Instructor (AMI) will work with JobTrain Career Centers (Menlo Park/EPA, San Jose, Half Moon Bay, North Fair Oaks, and South San Francisco) and the Semi Foundation.
We are looking for a responsible, qualified Instructor, capable of implementing, instructing, and evaluating educational programs in the field of Advanced Manufacturing with an emphasis in the Semiconductor Industry. You will be responsible for teaching an overview of the semiconductor industry and fundamental technical skills necessary for entry-level positions.
This position is scheduled for Monday – Friday morning and/or evenings, full time 40-hours, to include teaching time, prep time and potential outreach efforts when entering new regions. This job’s location will rotate amongst the Career Centers including Menlo Park, San Jose, and South San Francisco.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Further update Advanced Manufacturing curriculum with the Semi Foundation as needed and deliver Advanced Manufacturing curriculum, providing a stimulating environment that encourages participation of multiple learning types, interpersonal skills development, and comprehension of concepts.
- Incorporate prior advanced manufacturing experience into hands on learning activities
- Using existing advanced manufacturing networks to invite guest speakers, arrange field trips, and identify potential employers
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current related state and federal requirements and modify curriculum accordingly.
- Keep up to date with advance manufacturing trends
- Create and maintain accurate records, schedules, and course requirements regarding hours of instruction and content.
- Screen and enroll cohorts.
- Monitoring of stipend qualifications by maintaining attendance records for our students and ensure prompt reporting to accounting
- Order supplies and updated materials needed for class work.
- Evaluate and document trainee progress through testing, observation, and assessment of skills attained.
- Assist graduates with job placement by connecting them to potential employers in the industry.
- Collaborate with Economic Advancement Centers and assigned employment specialist as part of job placement services.
- Teach in alignment with JobTrain’s school mission and student learning outcomes, which includes our vocational schooling model where Career Development and Instruction are symbiotic, embedded, and collaborative.
- Maintain professional growth in Advanced Manufacturing expertise, instructional skills, and administrative program changes dictated by state and federal requirements through attendance at appropriate seminars, membership in professional organizations, and by following relative professional publications.

Education / Certification
- Advanced Manufacturing certification preferred
- High school diploma/ GED equivalent or higher
- A combination of at least 10 years of work experience in teaching or training experience in the Advanced Manufacturing industry
- In depth, current / recent experience as an Advanced Manufacturing Instructor as an Advanced Manufacturing employee in a manufacturing setting (preferably semiconductor).
- Knowledge or Experience in Industry 4.0 standards, Industrial Internet of Things(IIoT), Smart Manufacturing in the 21st Century is highly preferred.
- Experience working closely with manufacturing companies, employers and/or related recruiters for manufacturing positions.
- Previous experience in teaching students with barriers to employment is preferred
- Knowledge and experience navigating the advanced manufacturing industry.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills to clearly communicate advanced manufacturing concepts and effectively train clients.
- Strong organization and planning skills with an ability to manage details and maintain schedules.
- Excellent interpersonal communication Must be positive, responsive, and a motivational role model for trainees.
- Strong collaboration skills with an ability to effectively partner with JobTrain staff and external funder and employer.
- Strong computer skills with competence in Microsoft Word, email, web applications and online meeting tools.
- Demonstrated ability to be dependable / reliable.
- Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
- Must be able to travel to different sites as needed, within Santa Clara & San Mateo Counties, including mornings and evenings.

Compensation and Benefits
JobTrain offers a competitive salary, numerous health benefit plans and premium coverage of 90%, vision and dental, flex spending and HSA programs, 401K with a 5% match after joining, EAP and emergency services, vacation time, paid sick leave, long-term disability and life insurance. We also pay employees for 10 observed holidays including a whole week off between Christmas Eve and New Years Day.The targeted pay range for this position is $80,000 to $85,000 annually.
